DCFD Pipes and Drums helps Seagrave Fire Apparatus celebrate 125 years.

Over the weekend of September 23 2006 the band made their way to Clintonville, Wisconsin, the home of Seagrave.  The band performed for and help celebrate Seagrave 125 anniversary and dedication of their new manufacturing facility. The band had to perform in its travel uniform. The entire band's luggage was delayed in Chicago and did not arrive in time for us to change into our kilts and some did not arrive at all until  we were checking in at the airport to go home. The band (as always) still had a great time.  The band would like to say thank you to Seagrave and the citizens of Clintonville for their hospitality, to Cindy B's for the good times and making us feel at home and last but not least to Timmy "Cosgrove" Jones' Drum shipping service for without his help the weekend would have been a bust.

DCFD Emerald Society Band Marks Solemn 5th Anniversary Memorial at the Pentagon

The DCFD Emerald Society Pipes & Drums were invited by Secretary Rumsfeld's Office to participate in the Pentagon's 5th Anniversary Memorial Service on Monday, September 11th 2006. It was an overcast day reflecting the mood of the attendees at a private, invitation only ceremony for family members of the 184 victims killed on September 11th on board Flight 77 and at the Pentagon.

Words of condolence were provided by Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine Corps Gen. Peter Pace. Also present at this observance was the US Army Band and Chorus, "Pershing's Own". At the conclusion of the service the DCFD ES Pipes & Drums played "Amazing Grace" while the attendees watched the garrison flag draped over the Pentagon by first-responders, the same flag flown on September 11, 2001.

As said by General Pace to the families "There are no words that can soothe your pain and no way that we can truly understand all the sacrifice that you have made. We hope in some way that this remembrance today and the ceremonies like it all over our country will tell you that we are with you; we will NEVER FORGET."

On that date at 9:38 AM, Arlington County requested assistance from the District of Columbia Fire/EMS Department. The District dispatched a second-alarm assignment to the Pentagon along with several EMS units. Shortly after 10 AM, the District's collapse rescue team also responded to the Pentagon to assist in recovering trapped victims. Firefighters remained on the scene throughout the night to assist in the extinguishments of the blaze. Secretary Rumsfeld and General Pace met with the band after the memorial service and expressed their gratitude for providing this music for the families, as well as the assistance received from DCFD and other first-responders on that terrible day.
